ARCHIVOLTES

Created in collaboration with artist Koralie Carmen Flores, Archivoltes is a sculptural screen that evokes the passage from one state to another, from one space to the next. Its composition draws upon the artist’s distinctive graphic language, while echoing the timeless vocabulary of architecture.
From sacred cathedrals to triumphal arches, from the Etruscans to the Basques, crossing an arch has long carried a profound symbolic significance. Whether sacred or secular, ceremonies and rites of passage are grounded in a language shared by the communities that enact them — a language through which meaning is transmitted and transformation made tangible.
Having initially studied architecture, Koralie Carmen Flores turned to artistic creation, developing a singular visual vocabulary of her own. In Archivoltes, the ideograms she has conceived become a language in their own right: an intimate yet universal script, offered here as an invitation to enter her world.
Among the motifs, several ideograms reveal their meaning: “Aurora,” evoking the ability to perceive a new day emerging on the horizon; “Trajectory,” expressing an intuitive relationship to space and movement; and “Exquisite Joy,” embodying a contagious sense of joie de vivre.

Are you ready to cross the threshold — and allow yourself to be transformed?

Because the purpose of design, beyond function, is a creative process that engages with the very substance of the materials it employs, Maentler studio seeks to explore the designer’s responsibility in discerning what is essential. To elevate an object, is it to reduce it to its essence? Or is it to infuse it with a little of the soul of the men and women who conceived and crafted it?
The Archivoltes screen, created in collaboration with artist Koralie Carmen Flores, symbolises the passage from one state to another, from one space to the next, drawing on the artist’s graphic vocabulary and the architecture of cathedrals.
The Argi trio of occasional tables approaches sculpture as a process of transformation through addition rather than subtraction — building upon the material rather than carving it away.
