Mission

Clients:

A Parisian family with a passion for travel, surfing and wide-open spaces sought to reinvent their apartment within one of Biarritz’s iconic historic residences.

General brief:

The ambition was to create an interior in which every room is oriented towards the majesty of the ocean. The design combines elegance and functionality, reflecting the family’s lifestyle while remaining in harmony with the architectural character of the building.

Three ocean-facing suites were created, allowing each member of the family to fall asleep with the ocean as their horizon.

Specific requirements:

A mezzanine was created for their daughter, freeing the entire ground floor as an open space for dancing and gathering.

A subtle touch of blue was retained throughout the interior, as a quiet reference to the surrounding ocean.

Details

Historic architectural features, including the original mouldings and carefully framed views, were preserved or reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, allowing the strong character of the residence to coexist with a refined modern aesthetic.

The staircase was relocated to provide access to the main mezzanine, while the interior was comprehensively restructured to create a more fluid circulation throughout the apartment.

A monumental chandelier was introduced as a sculptural focal point. New mouldings incorporating dimmable lighting were designed as a contemporary reinterpretation of the original decorative elements, preserving their architectural presence while introducing a subtle modern sensibility.

En-suite bathrooms were created for each of the bedrooms.
